Hurricane Laura

Hurricane Laura, the strong category 4 storm, made landfall in the early hours of August 27th on the coast of Louisiana, about 30 miles from the Texas border, bringing lashing rain and sustained winds of 150 miles per hour. While the storm was downgraded to a category 2 as it moved further inland, hurricane-force winds and widespread damage continued.

PDA is working with our international partners where Hurricane Laura impacted Haiti and the Dominican Republic, in addition to the affected U.S. presbyteries.

Initial response grants have been disbursed to respond to immediate needs.

Easter tornadoes

During the weekend of Easter 2020, several southeastern states experienced severe storms and tornadoes. Throughout the two-day outbreak, a total of 140 tornadoes touched down across 10 states, inflicting widespread and locally catastrophic damage. We mourn the lives lost and lift up the communities responding to these tornadoes while also dealing with the restrictions of COVID-19.

PDA has virtually deployed National Response Team members to support the response while also granting funds. We continue to be in touch with the affected presbyteries about long term recovery needs.
