About the church:Pines Presbyterian Church (PPC) was founded on October 1, 1960. Today, with a congregation numbering near 500 members, Pines hosts activities in education, community service, foreign and local missions. Above all, Pines is dedicated to the worship and devotion to Jesus Christ.
About the disaster: In August of 2017, Houston Texas was inundated with over 25 inches of rain within a 36-hour period due to Hurricane Harvey. Entire communities were under water, necessitating mass evacuations of homes and neighborhoods. Homes, businesses, vehicles, and roads along with personal belongings were destroyed. 31 PPC families were displaced. In response, Pines became a shelter for various teams who came to Houston to assist in the aftermath of Harvey.
