Other Amenities:
- Community Garden: First Presbyterian Church is a small church dedicated to serving the Calvert City community. Each summer, we grow vegetables, for anyone who would like to have them or needs them, in Grace Garden. During the harvest time, volunteers are welcome to select available vegetables to use in their meals.
- Entertainment: We have a fellowship hall, a large classroom with couches and chairs and a parlor area. We do have Wi-Fi so mission teams will be able to connect to the internet. A television with an HDMI cable is in the Fellowship Hall for volunteer use.
- Local Tourism: First Presbyterian Church and Calvert City is located near a major tourism destination. Kentucky Lake and Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park are located within the corporate limits of the City of Calvert City. There are multiple attractions and venues located near our church. Kentucky Lake, which was once the largest human-made lake in the world is just 5.3 miles from the church.
About the church: First Presbyterian Church of Calvert City was founded in the mid-1950s by people who moved to Calvert City to work at the newly formed chemical industrial complex. The church is very active in the community despite having only 11 members. We grow and distribute free food from our community garden every year, and actively support our local family resource center by supplying food and clothing to local school age children and their families. We are also active in the local ministerial alliance and their activities.
About the disaster: On December 10th, 2021, a massive storm spawned a tornado that struck our area. While the tornado did not directly impact our church or church members, the tornado’s path was approximately eight miles from Calvert City. In our county 224 homes were destroyed and hundreds damaged. There have been approximately 735 homes, in our county, that received damage, but the homeowners do not have insurance or resources to repair them.
