Give to support our response this hurricane season
God of our life, whose presence sustains us in every circumstance, in storm and distress, hear our prayer. May those who have been spared nature’s fury as well as those whose lives are changed forever by ravages of wind and water find solace, sustenance, and strength in the days of recovery and rebuiding that come.
We pray for those yet in harm’s way; who wait in neighborhoods while waters rise, who pray for the rains to cease. We pray for those huddled at home or among strangers while wind ravages, for those who have fled from home and wait and wonder. We ask for sustaining courage, for the kindness of strangers, for hope that does not disappoint.
We open ourselves to listen with compassion to the stories of those whom these storms have not spared and to act generously on their behalf: communities whose livelihood, homes and stability have been destroyed. We pray in grief, honoring the lives shattered and the livelihoods, homes and businesses for whom recovery seems an insurmountable mountain.
As typhoons, floods and hurricanes assault the planet endangering creation and so many vulnerable communities, we pray for the peoples of the Caribbean, the Philippines and Vietnam, Pakistan, and our own United States. Even as year by year we endure these seasons, we also see the intensifying impacts climate change imposes on our fragile earth as storms increase in severity and number. We repent our lack of attention to this crisis and commit to repairing and healing the earth.
We ask for sustaining courage for those who are suffering; wisdom and diligence among agencies and individuals assessing damage and directing relief efforts; and for generosity to flow as powerfully as rivers and streams, responding to the deep human needs emerging in the wake of these storms. May every tear be dried, as we join the work of your restless Spirit, hovering even now over the waters of chaos, creating, healing, and birthing your new community of justice and wholeness for all creation and for the creatures who dwell in it.

ORACIÓN EN MEDIO DE LAS TORMENTAS
Escucha nuestra oración Dios de nuestra vida, cuya presencia nos sostiene en toda circunstancia, en la tormenta y en la angustia. Que quienes se han librado de la furia de la naturaleza, así como quienes cuyas vidas han sido afectadas para siempre por los estragos del viento y el agua, encuentren consuelo, sustento y fortaleza en los días de recuperación y reconstrucción que se avecinan.
Oramos por las personas que todavía están en peligro que esperan en los barrios mientras suben las aguas, que oran para que cesen las lluvias. Oramos por quienes se guardecen en casa o entre gente desconocida mientras el viento azota, por las personas que han huido de su hogar y esperan llenos de dudas. Pedimos valentía sustentadora, bondad de gente desconocida y esperanza que no defrauda.
Abrimos nuestros corazones para escuchar con compasión las historias de quienes estas tormentas han afectado y a actuar generosamente en su favor: comunidades cuyos medios de subsistencia, hogares y estabilidad han sido destruidos. Oramos en el dolor, honrando las vidas destrozadas y los medios de subsistencia, hogares y negocios para quienes la recuperación parece una montaña insuperable.
Mientras los tifones, las inundaciones y los huracanes asaltan el planeta y ponen en peligro la creación y tantas comunidades vulnerables, oramos por los pueblos del Caribe, Filipinas y Vietnam, Pakistán y los Estados Unidos. Aunque año tras año soportamos estas temporadas, también vemos los impactos cada vez más intensos que el cambio climático impone en nuestra frágil tierra a medida que las tormentas aumentan en severidad y número. Nos arrepentimos de nuestra falta de atención a esta crisis y nos comprometemos a reparar y sanar la tierra.
Pedimos valentía sustentadora para quienes están sufriendo, sabiduría y diligencia entre las agencias y las personas que evalúan los daños y dirigen los esfuerzos de socorro; y que la generosidad fluya tan poderosamente como ríos y arroyos, respondiendo a las profundas necesidades humanas que emergen tras estas tormentas. Que cada lágrima sea enjugada, mientras nos unimos al trabajo de tu Espíritu inquieto, el cual incluso ahora se mueve sobre las aguas del caos, creando, sanando y dando a luz a tu nueva comunidad de justicia y plenitud para toda la creación y para las criaturas que habitan en ella.
