Members of the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance National Response Team (NRT) are on their way to the campus to be a presence and resource to the community.  Over the years, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has been very engaged in helping communities and student survivors that have been affected by school shootings.

At least ten people were killed in the shootings at the Umpqua Community College campus in Roseberg, Oregon. Another 20 people were injured.  Roseberg is a small community of about 22,00 0 located 120 miles south of Portland. Classes are canceled for the remainder of the week to allow students to mourn and begin healing.

Rev. Jim Atwood, long-time activist for gun violence and author of "America and it's Guns: A Theological Perspective", says there has been more than 200 gun violence incidents this year.
