Lincroft Presbyterian Church, Lincroft, NJ - 2015 Blue Out — Steve Introcaso

Lincroft Presbyterian Church (LPC) joined the 2015 “BLUE OUT”.  We wore our blue LPC shirts and used the Blue Out poster from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to promote the beginning of One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS).  February 22, 2105 was scheduled as a “Walk the Talk” Sunday for our church.  We began the morning with a short worship service and then prepared our church to host Family Promise guests the week of February 22 - March 1, 2015.

Lots of Good Work At LPC’s Walk The Talk Sunday!

Twenty-three Lincroft Presbyterian Church members “Walked The Talk” during the worship service on Feb. 22, heeding Christ’s exhortation to care for the needy. After a brief welcome by Susan Guhse, a rousing hymn accompanied by Sarah Lawser, and a blessing by Catherine Morrison, church volunteers got right to work!

Those staying at LPC prepared the church for its Family Promise hosting duties, organized by the church’s Family Promise liaisons Kathy Noah and David Reichard. The sanctuary was readied with tables, children’s highchairs, and toys; classrooms were transformed into bedrooms; the office and choir room were prepared to serve as overnight hosts’ rooms; and a crew of almost ten people cleaned the kitchen until it was nothing short of immaculate, and well stocked! By the time the Family Promise guests arrived later in the day, everything was ready and welcoming for them.

Five other church members (including sixth grader Gianna!) traveled to the Family Promise Day Center to clean the office areas. It was a bigger job than originally thought, with two large offices and a bathroom, but volunteers worked hard and were gratified to leave the upstairs sparkling and fresh for the center’s staff.

The “Walk The Talk Sunday” coincided with Presbytery’s “Blue Out”, when all were asked to wear blue for the kick-off of One Great Hour of Sharing. After the blessing but before embarking on the various tasks, volunteers wearing their LPC T-shirts or other blue apparel took a moment to pose for a quick picture. Although a few volunteers had gone straight to the Day Center and thus were not in the picture, it is still a very nice memento of a fulfilling morning seeking to serve others from outside of our church. Thanks to all who participated!
